Well, good news for you…

I’ve made pretty much ALL the mistakes which can be made, with money, credit and debt.  No joke…

When I was 20 years old I bought my first BRAND NEW truck.  I had NO CREDIT.  No bad credit, and no good credit; just simply NO CREDIT.

But fortunately for me the friendly finance folks at Santa Cruz Nissan Dodge Volkswagen went to no less than 22 different banks until they found financing for me on a brand new truck, at 22%.  I thought, “Hey, no problem… I’ll take the loan, pay it on time and pay it off early to build my credit!“  So I did… I paid on time and paid off the truck after only 11 months.

I thought I had the cat by the tail!

But guess what??  I learned my first big lesson in credit: An auto loan doesn’t even rate on your credit (it doesn’t even add one single shred of positive rating) until AFTER 12 months of payment history.  WHAT???  I paid 22% on $19k for 11 months for ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!?!?  That was $4k in INTEREST PAYMENTS STRAIGHT DOWN THE TOILET, not to mention the hit I took on the value of the truck, for absolutely nothing!  (Well, not exactly a total loss — see next paragraph, following these next two questions…)

Why didn’t we learn “how credit works” in school?

How come no one ever told us how this stuff really works?

Little did I know back when I was only 20 that I would go on to become an “expert” in solving credit, debt and financial problems.  In fact, now I can say with confidence my $4k loss was well worth it!  Along with all of my other financial losses, which total well over one million dollars, my “bad experiences” have been well-worth it because now I can share everything I learn with you.  The “life-changing financial education” I have for you cost me personally over one million dollars to learn, and a whole lot of pain to go with it, but you can avoid these insane costs and skip most of the pain by learning this stuff from me…  Apparently, it’s what I’m here to give you.

Yes, I’m told I sound young, and look young (for my age), but don’t be fooled.  I’m 34 years old, and I’ve lived a life  full of many rich and challenging “learning” experiences.  I’m the father of three children; one in heaven and two on earth.  Samuel, my first born, died at 5 1/2 months after sever brain damage caused during birth by an “adverse reaction” to a drug used to induce my wife into labor.  I was honorably discharged from the Marine Corps for hardship purposes due to the severity of his condition.  I guess you could say I know about hardship, but this is just one of my many life stories, LOL.  I’m sorry to go deep on you, but hey, it’s my story, and besides; I’m straight up and real, and happy! So let’s cheer up now, because I also have two beautiful children who are alive and well; a boy and a girl, ages 10 and 8, Noah and Glory, my greatest purpose!

What do I know?

Let’s see… I started out as a laborer and dishwasher at sixteen, worked my way up to bus boy, then was mentored into a carpenter three times over.  Then my wife got pregnant and I joined the Marine Corps (Luckily, I was covered for nearly $250k in medical bills due to the serious condition of my first born son).  Then I locked in a “safe, secure, good-paying job with great benefits” working as a Railroad Conductor for Union Pacific.

I was happily married making over $70k a year at age 23 when I bought my first house.  I had started a side-business at age 19… and by 23 I had studied, learned, practiced and began making better money  in the stock market from my side-business than I made working on the railroad.  I resigned from the UPRR in October 1999 shortly after my second son, Noah, was born.  I worked from home and made more money than I had ever imaged, over $86k a month in net profits.

After my initial business success I invested all of my money, plus a whole lot of investor’s money, into an internet start up company for online trading.  My net worth over $2 million on paper by age 25, but you can probably guess what happened next…  I lost it all.

For a few short years my family and I enjoyed an abundant, successful life.  We also had our third child; my beautiful daughter Glory.  My wife and I were high school sweethearts and married when I was 20.   Six of our eight years together we nothing short of “happily ever after”, but things changed for us and we divorced when the kids were still young.

I’ve been through the dark times of life, business failure, loads of credit card debt (to say the least) and plenty of scarier stuff like IRS debt, personal debt, investor debt, child support, lawsuits, judgments… You name it, I probably went through it.

Yuck, it sucks, but oh well… now I know better, A LOT BETTER!
